During their talk, which took place in a constructive atmosphere, President of the Government Rajoy particularly enquired after the situation of the Spanish factories and their employees. The CEO of PSA conveyed a message of calm and assured him that the group will meet the conditions of all the agreements signed between General Motors and trade unions. The President of the Government expressed the support of the Government of Spain for the PSA Group, which will extend its presence in Spain following this takeover, as well as for the automotive sector as a whole.

The PSA Group has two factories in Spain, in the cities of Vigo and Madrid, while Opel has a factory in Figueruelas (Zaragoza). This presence forms part of a key sector for Spanish industry since it represents 9% of the Gross Domestic Product of Spain, generates more than 250,000 direct jobs and more than 1 million indirect jobs. Spain is the second-largest car manufacturer in the European Union and the eighth-largest in the world.

The President of the Government highlighted the recovery and stability of the Spanish economy, as well as the structural reforms applied that have created an attractive framework for companies in many sectors, including the automotive sector, which in the last four years has announced investments in Spain of close on 10 billion euros.
