During the meeting, the two leaders will review bilateral relations, relations between the EU and MERCOSUR, as well as the main issues on the international and Ibero-American regional agendas. Following the meeting, they will sign the Action Plan to Extend the Strategic Partnership, a Joint Declaration and various sector agreements.
Subsequently, the President of the Government will offer the Argentinean delegation a lunch.
The visit is not only of major political significance, but also has a marked economic content. The President of Argentina has travelled to Spain accompanied by the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament of Argentina, Emilio Monzó; the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Worship, Susana Malcorra; as well as the Minister for Production, Francisco Adolfo Cabrera; the Minister for Work, Employment and Social Security, Jorge Triaca; the Minister for Modernisation, Andrés Horacio Ibarra, and the Minister for Culture, Alejandro Pablo Avelluto.
Economic relations between the two countries are enjoying a buoyant period, with Spanish companies operating in many sectors throughout the country. Bilateral trade is intense; our exports exceed 850 million euros per annum, while imports exceed 1.5 billion euros.
From a point of view of investment, Spain is the leading European investor and the second-highest global investor in Argentina (only behind the USA). Spanish companies have always displayed a great commitment to Argentina, clearly evidencing the strong ties that unite the two countries.
In particular, there is noteworthy participation from Spanish companies in the sectors of communication, finance and insurance, energy, construction and engineering, and fashion.
