The President of the Government assessed the unemployment figures published on Thursday upon his arrival at the Madrid Municipal Conference Centre, where he is due to bring to a close the Congress of the European People's Party on Thursday afternoon. In his opinion, the figures from the Labour Force Survey (Spanish acronym: EPA) for the third quarter of the year "are very good, but the most important thing is to now maintain this speed".
Mariano Rajoy highlighted that more than half a million people have found a job in the last year, which justifies our claim that "in the next term of office, if we do things right, we can create 500,000 jobs each year over the next four years, in other words, a total of some 2 million jobs".
The President of the Government added that if the government perseveres and maintains the same economic policy, it will be able to meet these employment figures, and this will totally guarantee pensions and allow them to be improved, increase revenue in Spain and be able to improve public services. "This is the challenge facing us, the challenge for the years to come and what we are going to work towards", he said.
