President of the Government appoints Íñigo Méndez de Vigo as new Minister for Education, Culture and Sport

On Thursday afternoon, the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, notified H.M. King Felipe VI, of the appointment of the new Minister for Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, to replace the previous minister, José Ignacio Wert.

The President of the Government thanked the outgoing minister for his work at the head of the department and for his determination in drafting the Constitutional Law to Improve the Quality of Education (Spanish acronym: LOMCE).

The new minister, who had held the post of State Secretary for the European Union to date, is due to take office in his new position on Friday afternoon.
