Moncloa Palace, Madrid

The main priority for this meeting was to tackle the security situation stemming from the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. In this regard, the President of the Government emphasised that the government's priority is to strengthen security without lessening our rights and freedoms.

In turn, the Minister for Home Affairs explained the main lines of the National Strategic Plan on Combating Violent Radicalisation, which will soon be approved by the Council of Ministers. Similarly, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Defence, as well as the State-Secretary and Director of the National Intelligence Centre, presented the various measures adopted to date, at both a domestic and an international level.

The goal for the National Security Council is to strengthen State capabilities and implement the best initiatives on the prevention, detection and response to security risks and threats in the most cooperative and comprehensive manner possible. This body, which meets on a two-monthly basis, held its first meeting in 2015 earlier on Friday morning.
