Agri-food and fisheries exports increased 4.4% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 38.853 billion euros. The increase in the value of exports is due more to the growth in export volumes (+3.7%) than to the growth in prices (+0.7%).

The data is in the Foreign Trade Report for the first half of 2024 prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, an updated analysis of the main figures and indicators, which provide information on the current foreign trade situation in the agri-food and fisheries sector. The study is based on provisional data for 2024 from the Customs and Excise Department of the State Tax Administration Agency.

In the Spanish economy as a whole, exports fell 2.4% compared to January-June 2023. This proportion is similar to the 2.5% reduction in imports.

In the agri-food and fisheries sector, imports fell 2.2% to 27.588 billion euros. This reduction in the value of imports is due to a decrease in import prices (-4.5%), as import volumes increased 2.3%.

In this context, during the first half of 2024, the trade balance of the agri-food and fisheries sector increased 25.5% to 11.265 billion euros, in contrast to the decrease recorded in the first half of 2023 (-6.4%). The trade balance of the total economy has increased 3.6%.

Exports during the first half of the year increased in the main sub-sectors, except in the oilseeds group; fish, crustaceans and molluscs, meat and vegetables and pulses.

The largest increase occurred in the oils and fats group, with an increase of 1.303 billion euros compared to the same period in 2023, 38.4% in relative terms.
