News - 2017.10.18
Against this backdrop, over 50% of fruit and vegetable production is allocated to the overseas market, mainly the European Union, where 93% is exported. Furthermore, Spain is the largest exporter in the EU and in the top three worldwide, alongside China and the United States.
In 2016, Spain exported fresh fruits and vegetables and transformed fruits and vegetables worth 14.08 billion euros. This is an increase of 3% on 2015 and 22% more than the average in the period 2011-2014. These figures position this sector as the leading export sub-sector within the agri-food sector as a whole.
Furthermore, Isabel García Tejerina said that Fruit Attraction stands as a benchmark for the fruit and vegetable sector and, in recent years, has consolidated its position in the Spanish farming sector and based its competitiveness on quality, variety, innovation and internationalisation. This event grows each year and is being attended this year by 1,500 exhibitors from 30 countries and 60,000 professionals from 110 countries.
