Stéphane Travert took the opportunity provided by this meeting to underline his firm condemnation of the incidents occurring in France since 2016 against the production of Spanish wine.
At the meeting, the Spanish and French professionals exchanged points of view on the situation in the wine sectors and wine markets in the two countries. This dialogue led to a shared economic outlook on the French-Spanish wine sector.
Furthermore, a decision was taken to further develop these exchanges within the framework of two themed working groups: one on competitiveness and economic issues in the sector, in order to anticipate possible difficulties in the market; and another on regulatory issues, in order to establish strong French-Spanish positions vis-a-vis European and international policies.
These two working groups will meet between now and the end of June 2018, when the next meeting of the Joint French-Spanish Committee on the Wine Sector will be held in Madrid.
With support from their respective authorities, the professionals from the two countries have thus highlighted their intention to work together on a response to the many challenges to be faced by the French-Spanish wine sector over the coming years.
