Officers from the Provincial Intelligence Brigade of the City Police Headquarters of Melilla arrested a man of Algerian nationality in the autonomous city of Melilla, who was subject to an International Arrest Warrant (IAW) issued by the court authorities of Algeria in May of this year. According to this warrant, which was distributed by INTERPOL, the grounds for his arrest were for belonging to a terrorist group preparing to carry out acts of terrorism.

This latest arrest comes as a result of the tireless work that the Intelligence Units of the National Police have been carrying out within the framework of prevention and protection in the fight against terrorism. In this case, the work performed led to his identification at the border and the subsequent execution of the International Arrest Warrant (IAW) issued by the Algerian authorities, clearly demonstrating the excellent collaboration that exists with the counter-terrorism services of that country.

The detainee was handed over to Central Investigation Court No. 4 of the National High Court, where he is being held.

Since 26 June 2015, the date on which the Ministry of Home Affairs raised the Counter-Terrorism Alert Level to level 4 (Spanish acronym: NAA-4), law enforcement agencies have arrested a total of 182 Jihadist terrorists in operations carried out in Spain and abroad, and a total of 227 since the beginning of 2015.
