Ministry of Tourism and Saborea España promote celebration of 'Tapas' Day in more than 30 countries
News - 2017.6.12
The aim of this initiative is to promote the potential of Spanish gastronomy, a key element in the promotion of its comprehensive tourism strategy. It is estimated that more than 7.7 million of the inbound tourists that travelled to Spain in 2016 took part in some form of gastronomic activity. Gastronomy is a differentiating attribute of the Spain Brand that is broadly acknowledged and helps enrich the perception of the destination.
For this reason, while Saborea España organises World Tapas Day in Spain, Turespaña does so in other countries, such as Germany, Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, Denmark, the United States, Finland, France, Georgia, Holland, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, the United kingdom, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine.
Turespaña plans to carry out some 70 campaigns in these markets, including activities in 733 restaurants and bars that offer tapas at special prices and through the organisation of competitions and tasting sessions.
General information on the event is available on a microsite in several languages (http://www.spain.info/en/dmt/world-tapas-day-spain/) and another site has been set up for each one of the markets in which activities are organised. These microsites contain information, maps of the locations of the participating restaurants, videos with recipes for tapas and other attractive content for international consumers.
The event is supported by a communication strategy through the social media. Turespaña is present on Facebook (Spain.info), Twitter (@Spain), Instagram (@Spain) and Youtube (@Spain), with a total of more than 2 million followers around the world.
