On increasingly complex and diverse stages, the daily work of peacekeepers makes a reality out of the commitment by the international community to create a safer and more prosperous world and their commitment reminds us that working towards peace is a collective effort.

Time-after-time, peacekeeping operations display their value in working to ensure security, particularly for the most vulnerable and, through the development of their many tasks, constitute an investment in global peace, security and prosperity. To that end, in recent years, Spain, which began to take part in international missions back in 1989, has been actively contributing to United Nations initiatives to strengthen peacekeeping and to making peacekeeping operations a swift and effective instrument capable of increasingly responding better to the challenges of new conflicts.

On this day, Spain wishes to remember and honour the memory of all those people, particularly Spanish servicemen, who have lost their lives in the service of peacekeeping operations under the flag of the United Nations. We express our gratitude to them for their sacrifice and pay our sincere tribute to them.
