The event was also attended by the Minister for Education, Culture and Sport, Iñigo Méndez de Vigo, the Minister for the Treasury and Public Function, Cristóbal Montoro, and the President of the National Sports Council, José Ramón Lete.

Thanks to this agreement, the government will contribute 10.5 million euros in the coming months, which will make possible the necessary investments to host the Mediterranean Games. This sum is in addition to the 2.5 million euros already allocated and the 2 million euros from the sponsorship of the State Lottery and Gaming Agency.

The total sum of 15 million euros will be provided to host 300 events in 33 different sporting disciplines and which is estimated will have an extraordinary repercussion on the economy, culture and sport itself, as well as a great social impact on the region.

The Vice-President of the Government highlighted that "Spain is a benchmark in the organisation of top-level sporting events" and stressed the importance of collaboration between the different tiers of government to ensure the "mutually beneficial success" of the Games.
