During his speech at the meeting of G-20 digital ministers held in Düsseldorf (Germany), Álvaro Nadal stressed the importance of the work being undertaken in Spain to boost the digital transition in the production of goods and services through support for entrepreneurship and innovation, access to financing and the development of digital capabilities in the business sector.
The minister highlighted the importance of analysing the implications of the digital transformation on the fundamental rights of citizens. In this regard, Spain has taken an important step by setting up the Work Group on Digital Rights.
During this conference, within the framework of the German Presidency of the G-20, the ministers responsible for digitalisation signed a declaration in which they acknowledged the fundamental role of the digital economy for catalysing economic development, improving industrial productivity, promoting new markets and achieving sustainable growth and development.
The G-20 aspires for global digitalisation to revolve around four fundamental principles: the free flow of data, safeguarding privacy, data security and consumer protection in the digital economy.
Noteworthy among the work priorities that came out of this meeting and that will serve as a road map for future presidencies of this global forum are the effective adoption of digital technologies, the expansion of digital infrastructures, the standardisation and promotion of digitalisation, support for entrepreneurs and micro SMEs and overcoming the gender digital gap.
