First group of resettlement refugees arrive in Spain from Lebanon, all 33 of Syrian nationality

The group, comprising seven men, seven women and 19 children, were received at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport by the Secretary-General of Immigration and Emigration, Marina del Corral and by the Director-General of Domestic Policy of the Ministry for Home Affairs, Juan José Molinos.
Another two groups of asylum-seekers are due to arrive in the next few days, one group from Lebanon and another from Greece.
Spain has already taken in 271 refugees, of which 181 have arrived from Greece (141) and Italy (40) under the relocation process and another 90 under the resettlement programme, from Turkey (57) and Lebanon (33).
The Spanish System for the Reception and Integration of applicants/beneficiaries of international protection offers its beneficiaries a stay at a reception centre of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security or of an NGO (subsidised by the government) at which they are guaranteed lodging, meals, legal advice, psychological assistance, social care and advice, accompaniment to education centres, public health and social centres, language learning and basic social skills, guidance and intermediation for vocational training and job reinsertion, cultural activities and economic aid.
