Spain re-elected as a member of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

In the vote, carried out by the top representatives of the civil aviation authorities of the different countries, Spain obtained the support of 94% of the States that take part in the assembly, a huge increase in the number of votes in favour on the previous elections.
In the tremendous support shown for Spanish civil aviation, the overseas promotion campaign carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, through the Directorate-General of International Economic Relations and the Ministry of Public Works, through the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation was absolutely fundamental.
Spain has had an uninterrupted presence on the Council since 1951, and its re-election clearly shows the importance of Spanish air transport in the world, Spain's extensive experience in the technological development of the sector, its financial contribution and technical cooperation at an aeronautical level, along with the leadership and added value of the contribution made by Spanish experts to the international aviation community.
Among the leading countries in the world Spain ranked seventh in terms of passengers numbers, with 207 million passengers passing through Spanish airports in 2015. Through its participation on the Council, Spain has consolidated its position as a key player in the development of the future of international aviation.
