The two arrested Jihadis protected one another through the communion and acceptance of the DAESH doctrine and the secrecy of their activities

One of the two detained, who was arrested in Valladolid, had decided to join the ranks of DAESH fighters in Syria. To do so, he radicalised himself on the Internet by accessing propaganda and ideological content spread by the organisation via its powerful publicity and communication arm, a method that is proving highly effective for indoctrinating and recruiting candidates from all over the world.

As DAESH intended, the arrested individual familiarised himself with and committed to the terrorist ideology, passing through the stages of indoctrination and recruitment for the sole purpose of converting and becoming loyal to the terrorist organisation.

After completing this step, in which his commitment was fully guaranteed, he moved on to the next stage: complete and full integration into DAESH.

It was during this period that, with the help of the second arrested individual, he decided to make preparations to secretly travel to the Syrian border, where he had contacted a member of DAESH who was due to take him to the conflict zone. Once at his destination, he would have been relocated to one of the combat areas held by the terrorist organisation and given intensive training in weapons and explosives handling for the purpose of returning to Europe with sufficient knowledge to carry out terrorist activities as effectively as possible.

His journey ended on the Turkey-Syria border, where the Turkish National Police Force arrested him and frustrated his plan to become another DAESH combatant. He returned to Spain upon his release.

Once back in Spain, he contacted the second arrested individual who aided his return and acted as a protector against possible external interference from outside his circle of trust.

In spite the frustrations of his thwarted journey, the "returnee" persisted with his idea to return as soon as possible, with the firm and sole intention of joining the ranks of combatants for this terrorist organisation.

The two arrested individuals shared the same Jihadi ideals, which led them to protect one another by maintaining a perfect partnership based on the communion and acceptance of DAESH doctrine and the secrecy of their activities.

This police operation was carried out within the framework of the ongoing fight being undertaken by the Spanish National Police Force against radical Jihadi individuals based in Spain who conduct activities that jeopardise national security.

The police operation took place under the instruction and supervision of the Judge of Central Criminal Investigation Court number six and was coordinated by the Public Prosecution Service of the Spanish National High Court.

The operation remains ongoing.
