Number of unemployed falls by 83,993 in July

Recorded unemployment fell by an average of 37,000 people in the month of July over the last eight years.

In seasonally-adjusted terms, unemployment fell by 48,573 in the month of July. This is the largest reduction in a month of July since records began. Unemployment has fallen in seasonally-adjusted terms in 38 of the last 39 months.

Over the last 12 months, recorded unemployment has fallen by 363,215. The rate of year-on-year decline in unemployment has risen in July to a rate of 9%, the best figure since the year 1999.

Unemployment among the under-25s has fallen by 12,881 in July (down 4.29%) on the previous month.
Recorded unemployment fell in all autonomous regions, headed up by Andalusia (down 23,651), Galicia (down 11,863) and Catalonia (down 9,044).

Recorded unemployment fell in all economic sectors of activity: it fell in the services sector by 51,275, in construction by 10,220, in industry by 10,049, and in the agriculture and fisheries sector by 3,980. Unemployment also fell among first-time job seekers, by 8,469.

Permanent employment contracts increase by 11%


The number of contracts registered in the month of July amounted to a total of 1,816,271, the highest figure on record for a month of July. This represents an increase of 20,558, 1.14% up on July 2015.

Permanent employment represents 7.6% of all new recorded contracts in July.
