The frigate headed to the zone and two hours later had rescued all the immigrants: 112 alive, the majority from Guinea, plus one dead body. According to information provided by the immigrants rescued, the deceased was already sick when he boarded the inflatable vessel.
At 9:35 am, the frigate 'Canarias' set sail towards the Doctors Without Borders vessel 'Dignity', which was at a distance of some 55 nautical miles, with the aim of transferring the immigrants to the other vessel.
