Two arrest warrants had been issued against this individual, in 2007 and in 2009, and he had been sentenced in abstentia by the Correctional Court of Paris on two occasions, in 2007 and in 2010, to two counts of four years in prison respectively for acts related to the terrorist group ETA. He had been actively sought by the Spanish and French police forces for some years.

This operation was successfully carried out thanks to the collaboration of the General Commissariat of Information of the National Police Force and the Counter-terrorism Sub-directorate of the French Judicial Police (DCPJ), run by the Counter-terrorism Division of the Court of First Instance of Paris.

This operation takes place just a few days after the arrest by the French police of another three members of ETA in the region of the Pyrenees-Atlantiques on 22 September

Jorge Fernández and Bernard Cazeneuve highlighted the great effectiveness of counter-terrorism cooperation between Spain and France, as shown by these two consecutive operations.
