At the meeting, the Vice-President of the Government expressed the Government of Spain's firm commitment to tackling the current humanitarian crisis and ensuring due reception, care and integration of those requesting international protection in Spain.
An extra 200 million in the Budget
The Vice-President of the Government took the opportunity to inform these entities that, within the framework of this commitment and due to the debate on the amendments to the Draft General State Budget for 2016, the Popular parliamentary group has proposed a compromise amendment - signed by all parliamentary groups - to increase the heading allocated to the Resettlement and Relocation of Refugees Programme by an additional 200 million euros.
This is intended as a response to the new circumstances requiring an increased effort to adapt the system for receiving and integrating those requesting international protection, which had already been increased in the Draft General State Budget for 2016 initially submitted to Parliament, by creating new items and increasing the funds allocated to this activity.
This new budgetary commitment, together with the extensive support received from the parliamentary groups, clearly demonstrates that management of this crisis must be a matter of State requiring the utmost demonstration of solidarity and responsibility.
