By filing these instruments, the ratification process is thus concluded after having been signed by His Majesty the King and receiving endorsement from Spanish Parliament.
This ratification is another example of Spain's firm commitment to Moldova and Georgia. These Association Agreements, now in a provisional phase, constitute a key element in developing relations between these two countries and the European Union and include an ambitious reformist agenda that will be for the mutual benefit of European society as a whole, and of Moldova and Georgia. The agreements also provide for the establishment of free trade areas of a broad and extensive scope, which will allow for the gradual integration of these countries in to the European markets.
The agreements come within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy and specifically of the Eastern Partnership, of which both Moldova and Georgia are members, together with Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Ukraine has also signed a similar European Union Association Agreement, which was ratified by Spain and filed with the Secretary General of the Council on 19 May.
