Grouped together once again this year under the Basque Maritime Forum, 30 Spanish companies will take part in the trade fair, 23 of them under the Spanish Pavilion, including participation from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and the ICEX [Spanish Exports and Investments], with the aim of supporting the internationalisation of the Spanish maritime industry at one of the most prestigious events in the world for the shipbuilding, repairs, port engineering and cargo transport sectors.

The Director-General for Industry and SMEs, Victor Audera, will visit the Spanish participants who are attending Nor-Shipping with the aim of making contact with the leading players in the maritime sector. During his visit, the director-general will take part in a seminar to be held on 3 June entitled "Tendencies and strategies in the Norwegian and Spanish Maritime sector to gain competitiveness", which will bring together leading Norwegian and Spanish maritime industry companies.

Nor-Shipping 2015 will host more than 1,000 exhibitors from 80 countries, spread over some 22,500 square metres to showcase cutting-edge technologies and maritime services. This will be held in Norway, a country with some of the most powerful maritime clusters in the world, particularly in the field of offshore service vessels. Hence, this is a market of great interest for the Spanish shipping industry and this trade fair will provide an excellent opportunity to investigate new business opportunities.

Spanish shipping sector; a global benchmark

The Spanish shipbuilding sector, with more than 20 shipyards, employs some 87,000 workers and is represented by highly competitive companies that are well-run, with cutting-edge technology and excellent shipbuilding quality. These great assets enable them to offer competitive prices, and tailored, innovative solutions to the most demanding requirements of their customers.

Thanks to ancillary industries of high technical quality and with cutting-edge technological capacity and a sound business profile, Spanish shipyards today constitute a prestigious reference for building highly sophisticated vessels, and have the support of financial institutions and ship-owners from around the world.

This action by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism aimed at boosting the Spanish maritime industry, comes within the framework of the Plan to Internationalise Industrial Sectors launched by the Secretary-General for Industry and Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises and the State Secretary for Trade and forms part of the agenda to strengthen the industrial sector which includes, among its objectives, boosting the maritime sector which exerts a strong knock-on effect, representing a high level of national production.
